I have found that many people don't know or understand sales and often don't take advantage of sales because of these confusions. If a store is having a 10 for $10 sale, most people won't take advantage, thinking they will have to buy 10 of one item in order to get them for $1 each. NOT TRUE! It also isn't true that you have to buy 10 of the same item in order to get a deal either. Meijer often has buy 10 get the 11th free. You don't have to buy all 10 of one item to get the 11th free. You actually can mix and match whatever else is on that same sale. Kroger often has deals such as buy 5 items and get $5 off. Nope, same thing, you don't have to buy 5 of the same to get the $5 off, you just have to buy 5 items that are all on the same sale. It's easy peasy!
COUPONS!
Yes, I said it! Coupons! You don't have to be an extreme couponer to make coupons work for you. I know I will have to pay for my groceries with actual money and not just coupons. I also know that I won't be getting 100% savings, much less 80% savings. Sometimes I may get 60% savings if I only have a few items that I have to get, but often my savings are about 45% savings and I'm good with that. I'm still saving so much and getting as much as I can for my money. What's wrong with that? I don't see a problem with it!
Coupons in the Louisville, Kentucky area are very straightforward. What it says on the coupon is what you get. If the coupon says buy one get one free, that's what I get. If it says SAVE $.40, then I save $.40. Done. That's all there is to it. What? I'm clipping coupons to save $.40? Yes! Why? (You may ask.) Because I look for the sales at the grocery stores and use my coupons with those sales and then get the very best deal that I'll be able to get in our area. Maybe your favorite yogurt is normally $.60 a container, but it's on sale for $.50 a container and you have a coupon. If you buy 6 of them you get an extra $.40 off. That means that your yogurt is $.43 each instead of the normal $.60 that you spend. I know, it's not that much off each one. I get that. Buy, if you have coupons for things all over the grocery store that you normally buy, those savings add up, right? Maybe the sale is better than that. Maybe that juice you buy is on sale for $1.00 and you have a $.50 off coupon. That means you get it for half off the sale price. That's better than getting it off the regular price which may normally be $2.50. Instead of paying $2 with that coupon, you are saving $2 with the sale price! Isn't that worth it?
IT'S OKAY FOR STORES TO KNOW YOUR ADDRESS!
Yes, the grocery stores know my address and it is connected to my Kroger card and my MPerks account. Why? Because Kroger will track your shopping habits and send you personalized coupons. I buy apples, carrots, bags of salad, yogurt and shredded cheese regularly, so they send me coupons for those items. What's better than that? I'm going to buy them anyway, why not use a personalized coupon while I'm at it? At Meijer, they don't send me coupons regularly, but when they do, it's worth it if I can save some money off of things I always buy.
IT'S WORTH USING DIGITAL COUPONS!
It really is worth them. Kroger and Meijer both have digital coupons off of store brand items as well as name brand items. Kroger even has coupons for their simple truth products. Meijer also has a rewards program to make your shopping trips go even further. You get 3 rewards a month as well as the baby reward for those who need it. What's wrong with saving an extra $10 a month if you know you'll be spending money at the grocery store anyway? There are rewards available in almost all departments to choose from too. If you know you are going to be spending money on toys for a birthday, clip that reward and earn money back for your purchases. PLUS, if there is a coupon for the toys you are purchasing, you get to take advantage of those as well and save even more. Are you planning on buying some new apparel? Sign up for the apparel reward and earn money back on the purchases that you are already planning on making.
IT'S SIMPLE!
I know that some of this may seem a little overwhelming, but relax, it really isn't. Try one new thing a week or even a month and see what it does. Maybe you'll save a little bit of money. Once you save a little bit, you may decide to try something else and save a little more. Happy Shopping! Be sure to check back soon for more information!
